It’s the end of an exciting and rewarding journey for a handful of children with Little Beginnings Urban Oasis Childcare (LBUO).
LBUO, which is operated by TIES (The Immigrant Education Society), hosted its End of the Year & Graduation Ceremony August 25th, celebrating the accomplishments of 13 preschoolers.
Among them, six graduates of the centre, all decked out in cap and gown to accept their certificates and some goodies!
“For us, this is not just a traditional graduation ceremony. It’s real proof that together we can set up these kids for success,” Raghda Abouelfetouh, Childcare Centre Manager says.
Graduate Izel’s family couldn’t agree more.
When she first joined LBUO, she could barely walk. She also couldn’t speak English, only her native language Spanish.
“We don’t speak to her in English, but she now learned English because of the staff, the teachers, the instructors, everything,” mom Azucena Barragan Nava says.
“It has been a blessing for the three of us. It’s been a wonderful experience for us.”
Malik, another proud grad, is also going into kindergarten and leaving LBUO.
His family is grateful for the time he was able to spend there and the fact that their youngest can still stay.
“We were so excited that at the beginning we got a spot, and I really appreciate everything they are doing,” mom Rahma Salem says.
This special event was also about celebrating LBUO’s hard working and dedicated team.
From administrators to educators and everyone in-between, they were presented with certificates and flowers, plus plenty of hugs from the children who also serenaded the crowd!
LBUO started welcoming children to its centre in NE Calgary back in the spring of 2024.
It was quite the undertaking to get it up and running, but TIES Chief Programs Officer Suman Khanal says it was well worth it.
“I want to thank all of the parents who entrusted their kids to us,” Khanal told the families in attendance at the year-end celebration.
“Our daycare is not only a daycare. We go the extra mile. We go above and beyond.”
“We’re not teaching the children only letters or numbers,” Raghda Abouelfetouh points out.
“We’re teaching the children to be kind. How to share. How to be independent. How to be respectful of the world they live in.”
LBUO is currently accepting children to join a waitlist for its fulltime, weekday care. It has open spots for its evening and weekend care.
