An accomplished psychologist, clinical supervisor, and entrepreneur has won the 2025 Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards: Entrepreneurial Spirit; celebrating the outstanding contributions of Albertans born abroad.
Priscilla Lee was honoured Sept. 30th, at the event’s annual awards ceremony at the Calgary Zoo.
“Whether in my private practice at Innerlogue Therapy & Psychology or through my ongoing work with TIES (The Immigrant Education Society), my focus has always been on giving back to the community,” Lee said.
And give back, she has.
Reaching out and impacting, the lives of hundreds of youths, families and executives.
“My hope is to ensure that everyone—newcomers and Canadians alike—can access counselling in the language that feels most natural and comfortable to them.”
Lee’s life has always been about helping others. Growing up in Singapore, she studied hard to become a registered psychologist.
Upon arriving in Canada seven years ago, her journey continued, and she’s now a fully Registered Psychologist in Alberta.
“As a newcomer to Canada, there were a lot of challenges for sure,” she said.
“I had to return to school to complete additional coursework to meet the requirements for registering as a psychologist in Alberta, which took a few years.”
During that time, Priscilla connected with TIES, beginning as a Program Manager before stepping into her current role as Clinical Supervisor with the Healthy Minds Counselling Program, where she oversees counsellors and practicum students completing their Master of Counselling.
“I'm so thankful that I started off my journey in Canada with TIES,” she said. “I got to meet a lot of amazing people. I felt very fortunate to have a lot of help and support around me when I first moved here.”
TIES is thankful as well.
Jisha Philip, Lead, Mental Health & Family Wellbeing, was one of the many people who recommended Lee for the award.
“Priscilla has played an instrumental role in advancing mental health services for immigrants and refugees,” Philip said.
“Through her dedication, she has significantly advanced the program’s capacity to offer culturally sensitive, trauma-informed counseling.”
“Priscilla’s ability to serve vulnerable populations through guiding our students with empathy and expertise, truly sets her apart.”
Lee practices what she preaches. In February 2023, she launched Innerlogue Therapy & Psychology.
She also participates in community events and holds workshops to ensure no one – especially newcomers – falls through the cracks.
“In my private practice, we have a really diverse team so that we are able to ensure that regardless of where you were born, you have a lot of diversity and choices of finding a therapist that would be a right fit for you,” she said.
“There is a lot of stigma for a lot of immigrants on mental health, so they might not always be ready to ask for help when they need it.”
As for the award, the psychologist, business owner, and public speaker is grateful that immigrants are being recognized on a provincial level.
“The fact that immigrants are being honoured is fantastic because it's showing how much that they're giving back to the province.”
