As we approach National Volunteer Week, I am reminded of the amazing impact TIES volunteers have on our organization and the communities we serve. This year's theme, "Volunteers Make Waves," highlights the power, influence, and importance of both the individual and collective volunteer efforts happening in our country.
Marilyn Magnan’s enthusiasm and energy just radiates off her. The devoted mom of five, and grandmother of 11, has spent her entire life on the go. She worked full-time, raised her kids, volunteered at their school and with her church and French community.
TIES Centre for Immigrant Research (CIR) is once again showcasing the powerful stories of newcomer 2SLGBTQIA + youth with its Voices in the Art Project (VIA).Now entering its fourth and final cohort, VIA is looking for participants to join this unique exhibition featuring journal entries, poetry, essay writings, clothing, sketches, scrapbooking, paintings and much more.

The Immigrant Education Society (TIES) is located on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikuni, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nation. The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.
