Because of you, our Fill the Basket holiday campaign was a huge success for newcomer children
CIES is excited to announce that, thanks to the generous donations that were gifted from across our city, our holiday Fill the Basket campaign was an incredible success! Thanks to so many generous Calgarians, CIES nearly doubled its holiday target, raising more than $1,125 to provide a gift for every child in our Childminding program. An additional 100 teddy bears were generously donated by the Calgary Hitmen via their annual Teddy Bear Toss, all of which found loving homes with newcomer children in need of comfort this holiday.
CIES’ Childminding (CNC) program provides a safe, fun, and educational haven for children of our clients between 19 months and 6 years of age. One of the greatest barriers to accessing education for newcomer families, and in particular newcomer women, is a lack of available childcare and caregiver support. In response, CIES offers this invaluable support program free of charge for our clients enrolled in our LINC and Employment Support Programs. Our CNC staff plan regular activities that are age-appropriate and sensitive to the children’s past experiences, while introducing them to Canadian society. With the goal of fostering multicultural respect and understanding, we encourage their creativity while taking into account each child’s unique needs in physical, mental, and emotional development. CIES’ Childminding program is offered at our NE Welcome Centre and Forest Lawn locations, daytime, evenings, and weekends.
Thanks to your generosity, every child in our childminding program went home with a meaningful present and a new teddy bear friend this holiday season. Thank you Calgary – we couldn’t be more proud to call this city home.
