What Is REDI?

The Refugee Express Drop-In ESL & Integration (REDI) project is a fast-track language training and social integration project designed for refugees to help them learn essential vocabulary and basic language skills, incorporating basic real life tasks in order to function in Calgary communities. This three-day a week basic English / literacy project offers in-class teaching, hands-on workshops, and fields trip to help build life skills.

The REDI project delivers face-to-face English language teaching that incorporates different community engagement modules with a focus on social integration. These modules will also incorporate engagement activities that will give students the opportunity to visit/speak with our partners through field trips, workshops, and presentations from Calgary Transit, the City of Calgary, Calgary Housing, the Calgary Board of Education, Alberta Health Services, Calgary Police Service, and other community service providers.

In 48 weeks, REDI offers four sessions. Clients can register to join ANYTIME and will be contacted when a spot becomes available.

Clients in the REDI project must maintain 70% attendance to get credit for each module. If a student joins the class in the middle of a module and couldn’t attend 70%, they will need to complete the the same module in a later session to be eligible for a Certificate of Completion.

Childminding is available for students’ children of 19 months to 6 years old (free of charge).
