Laptop Donations for Newcomers during COVID-19
The power of the internet allows us to connect with friends, work from home, and attend classes online. During the pandemic, access to a computer is vital: it can be the lifeline that connects us with the outside world.
After we transitioned to online services on March 17 due to COVID-19, it came to our attention that some of our students did not have access to a computer at home.
To address this critical need, we reached out to our community. Thanks to generous donations from Dave Botterill at Friends of Haiti, TIES was able to loan out over 40 laptops to students, enabling them to access critical support services and attend classes online.
At the end of March, a small team assembled at TIES Forest Lawn office to distribute the laptops. Thank you team! A special thank you goes to our Coordinator Noha Tanahi, who brought attention to the need for laptops and spearheaded this initiative.
We are still in need of more laptops!
If you have a used laptop or desktop computer to donate, please contact Noha Tanahi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Even though our services are being offered remotely, TIES is still hard at work – and we’re here to help you! If there’s a need we can help you with during this time, please reach out to us. You can message us on Settlement Chat on our website, or on our Facebook page.
