#TIES2U FESTIVAL LINKS

Celebrating Multiculturalism
September 23rd & 24th, 2020

The Immigrant Education Society is pleased to host our 10th Annual Summer Festival, #TIES2U, on the mornings of September 23rd and 24th from 9:00am to 11:00am. We are pleased to showcase this event as part of Alberta Culture Days festivities throughout the month of September. This year, due to COVID-19 and physical distancing requirements, we are connecting with our community by hosting the #TIES2U festival ONLINE for the first time.

Though this year we celebrate online, our two founding principles for this festival still remain: the first, to bring together newcomer students with members of the surrounding communities; and the second, to showcase our city’s vibrant cultural diversity with everyone. The #TIES2U festival aims to bring our community together to support each other, while celebrating diversity, and promoting our multiculturalism.

DAY 1 – September 23rd 9am

Our programming kicks off Wednesday, with opening ceremonies, a multicultural fashion show, and a family friendly talent show. If you would like to participate in this talent portion of the show simply enter with a video on the link above. This is your opportunity to showcase to your fellow Albertans your unique skills and abilities. A judging panel will score and award the top three performances from the day with exciting cash prizes.

DAY 2 – September 24th 9am

Join us for an exciting online event featuring cultural group performances and a unique talent show featuring some up-and-coming artists from various ethnic communities in the city. We have performances lined up on the second day that include: Japanese taiko drummers, Latin songs, Chinese Dragon dance, a Russian choir, and original music played by local Calgarians.

Please RSVP with an e-Ticket above and the online link to join the festivities will be emailed to you before the festival. The festival can be viewed on this page after the event.

If you have any questions about the festival or your group would like to participate in the multicultural performance part of the festival, we would love to hear from you.
