We’ve heard a lot of stories over the past 30 years.

Stories about challenge, about success, and about fortitude. This fall, join us in celebrating these stories and our shared history from the past three decades.

To celebrate its 30 years of service for immigrants and low-income Calgarians, the Calgary Immigrant Educational Society will be hosting an anniversary gala on October 30th, 2018 entitled One World Many Stories.

This event will commemorate the Society’s three decades of history and growth from a consultation and translation service in Forest Lawn to one of the city’s prominent language, employment, and settlement service providers. Some Of Our Storytellers

Alongside the music and dance performances, One World Many Stories will have guest speakers from many backgrounds: government officials, refugees, entrepreneurs, and artists. Some of these fascinating individuals include:

Abdoulfatah (Syria) came from a well known soap-making family in Aleppo, renowned for its world-class natural ingredients. Coming to Calgary, he was determined to bring over this tradition and has becoming a entrepreneur with his products spreading across Canada.

Anna (Hungary) arrived in Canada as a refugee following the loss of both her hands in a wartime explosion. Determined to find a place that she and her family could rightfully call home, she pressed on with confidence and has become a world-class Darts Champion and painter.

Amin (Syria) has been separated from his immediate family since coming to Canada, but hasn’t lost hope. One year ago he started playing the piano as a way to harmonize the memory of his homeland with his new Canadian self, creating a perfect blend of multicultural influences.

Natalia (Russia) came to Canada never having had the opportunity to ski. In 2016, with the generous assistance of Go Ski Alberta she had the chance to hit the slopes and discover how much they enjoyed the outdoors in Alberta.

Ying (China) came to Canada with a specialization in the guzheng. Needing to learn English, she quickly developed her skills and now leads a Chinese zither group that synergies music, Mandarin, and English.

And More!

We have an incredible series of short stories to tell, and invite you to come hear some additional live speakers (and multimedia presentations)
