Your community association: Your ticket to fun family activities and support

Hey CIES – did you know that March is Community Association Awareness Month? Did you also know that your local community association can be one of the best ways to find out about events that can help you and your family get settled in your new home? Calgary’s local community associations are run by groups of locals who care about their community and want to make it a safe, beautiful, and fun place to live. Anybody can be a volunteer for their local community association, just like anybody can take part in the many activities they offer for you and your family. Community associations are a great way to meet your neighbours, actively participate in your community, and learn about the many services they provide. Take the time this month to explore your community, find out what your community association has to offer you, take part in a program, purchase a membership, do something for a neighbour, or volunteer for a community event.

Here are some fun, upcoming events in your local communities:

Kids’ combination Yoga and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes in Dover and Forest Lawn

Enroll your children in an energetic class that will train them both physically and mentally. This combination jiu jitsu and yoga class will be provided for children ages 3-7 years old, in a fun and safe environment.

The Pineridge Senior’s Society: Meetups for ages 55+

Come out and celebrate life! The Pineridge Senior’s Society holds regular potlucks, Christmas parties, bus tours, and much more.

When: Every Monday at 12 Noon (except for public holidays)

Where: Pines Social Room (East Entrance), 6024 Rundlehorn Drive NE

Women’s English Practice and Social Group at the Village Square Library

The New Friends and Neighbourhood Group program is a safe and fun environment for immigrant women to improve their English and meet new women in the community. Registration is FREE and there are no minimal English requirements. Groups meet once a week for 2 hours to practice English, make new friends and have fun! Free childcare is also provided (6 months to 6 years old). JOIN ANYTIME!

Painting Nights at Las Canarias with España en Calgary

1129 17 Avenue SW

When: Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, September 25 at 7 p.m.

What: España en Calgary invites you to a night of quiet recreation in the restaurant Las Canarias (1129- 17 Ave SW) at 7 pm. Come enjoy a painting evening with an instructor that will guide us step by step in an artistic project. No experience needed.

All materials included in the price of $ 25 for members and $ 30 for no members. The price does not include food or drink.
