In response to the increasing demand for newcomer supports and accessible services, the Calgary Immigrant Educational Societyis announcing the grand opening of its third location.
This new facility, located in the northeast community of Westwinds, comes at important time for the organization and community. Over the past 30 years the Calgary Immigrant Educational Society has helped over 250,000 newcomers find success, but the continued influx of cross-provincial migrants and immigrants to Canada have resulted in challenges to space and accommodations. With this third location, the Society seeks to expand its assistance beyond its current 180 staff and 200+ volunteers.
On securing the new facility Dr. Sally Zhao, the Society’s Chief Executive Officer, had the following to say: “This has been achieved after years of preparation, including discussions at board and senior management level, needs assessment, space searching, logistics planning, and consultation with Society’s lawyer. Many individuals as well as funders have contributed to this move.”
The new Calgary Immigrant Educational Society – Westwinds will providemany of the same customized education, employment training and placement, and integration services found at the organization’s Whitehorn and Forest Lawn locations, but is also expected to include exciting new services in the coming months. An open house will be held for members of the community to visit and tour the facility. The new location can be found a short walk from the McKnight-Westwinds LRT station.
