Art is as unique and diverse as the population of Canada itself. Artistic activities can be a universal language for humanity, and with this in mind, we’re very excited to hear that our friends at Prospect Human Services are once again offering their ArtStart program starting on January 20, 2018.
What is ArtStart?
ArtStart is a free arts and culture program for immigrant and refugee youth between 12 and 14. Its goal is to:
- Help teens strengthen their English language skills
- Help teens enhance and build upon their communication skills.
- Increase their participation within their community.
The next session will run every Saturday from January 20 – March 24, and on 4 weekdays during March 26 to March 29 during Spring school closures. There are only 12 spots available so if you’re reading this, it’s already filling up quick! Transit passes and snacks will be provided and in order to register you’ll need to email ArtStart@prospectnow.ca or call 403-816-1974.
To see some of the art from this program, we suggest checking out the exhibition that ran last year at Studio C that featured pieces from 41 youth from 25 different countries. You’ll also be able to check our their special guest, The Honourable Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism for Alberta.
