Volunteers are the ambassadors of Canada because they introduce not only English language but also Canadian culture to newcomers.
Our volunteers’ dedication and contributions allow us to provide even more comprehensive services to our clients. Volunteering opportunities include translating, working with our ESL students one on one or in a small group, being a teacher's assistant and teaching a class of 6~12 students. Other non-ESL related volunteering opportunities are also available such as office assistants and computer related work. Training workshops, which cover various teaching strategies and issues, are conducted at our Society by the manager of the Drop-In ESL program. In addition, the volunteers are informed about and encouraged to attend volunteer training workshops organized by Bow Valley College.
We would like to thank all of the Calgarians who are currently volunteering or have volunteered in the past with us to help new immigrants find a sense of belonging in Canada through improved overall communication skills and a better understanding of Canadian culture.
