We Are Hiring
ESL Assessment Tools Writer
Part time 8 hours per week
18 months contract (start immediately)
The ESL assessment tools writer will be responsible for developing a number of assessment tools with reference to the Canadian Language Benchmarks, applicable to the Drop-In ESL learners at the Calgary Immigrant Educational Society at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a number of assessment tools with reference to the Canadian Language Benchmarks for the Drop-In ESL Program at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels and apply them to the Program learners.
- Work collaboratively with the research assistant to modify and finalize the assessment tools based on the evaluation results and feedback from the research assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree(s), preferably MA or MEd in the field of ESL teaching/testing & assessment
- Very familiar with the CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) system
- Expertise and experience with developing, applying, evaluating, revising, and finalizing assessment tools

ESL Assessment Tools Research Assistant
Part time 8 hours per week
14 months contract (February 14, 2010 to April 30, 2011)
The ESL Assessment Tools Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting research to evaluate the ESL assessment tools developed by the assessment tools writer, including collecting and analyzing data.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct the research and the data analysis for the evaluation of the assessment tools
- Summarize the evaluation results/research findings
- Work collaboratively with the assessment tools writer to provide critical and constructive feedback for the improvement of the assessment tools based on the evaluation results
QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree, preferably PhD/PhD candidate
- Expertise and experience in conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, summarizing research discoveries, and writing up research reports
- Very familiar with quantitative and qualitative research tools
- Capable of using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) software to conduct data analysis and interpret the results

Adult LINC Teaching Positions and Substitute Teachers
Teaching for the LINC Program at Calgary Immigrant Educational Society offers part-time and full-time assignments teaching Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) to adult learners.
Assignments can be:
- Full time: Mon - Friday 8:30 am - 3:45 pm
- Part time mornings: Mon - Thu 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
- Part-time afternoons: Mon - Thu 2:05 pm - 5:45 pm
- Part time evenings: Mon - Thu 5:30 pm - 9:10 pm
Requirements for teaching:
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree from a recognized institution, additional TESOL/TESL certification, and at least two years experience in teaching English to adults.
Or
- Master of Arts (M.A.) in English/Literature degree, additional TESOL/TESL certification, and at least two years experience in teaching English to adults.
- Significant ESL or EFL teaching experience will be considered in lieu or ESL coursework.
