With humble beginnings in 1988, C.I.E.S. has grown from a very small organization with only Mr. Salim M. Sindhu as a volunteer in a 250sq. ft. office to its present status. C.I.E.S. now has 40 dedicated staff and 100 volunteers working in a 15, 000 sq. ft. office building. Our objective is to help newcomers and economically disadvantaged Calgarians to become productive and successful.
Our goals are
1. To provide English as a Second Language classes to newcomers
2. To assist new comers and low income Canadians to become more self sufficient through employment.
3. To provide fair access to newcomers to the existing services and organizations by helping them to overcome the various barriers encourted in the settlement process..
4. To promote a mutual understanding and respect between the mainstream and ethnic community on cultural issues.
